A new report by the American Civil Liberties Union blasts the three-decade growth of the for-profit prison industry in the United States, and takes a shot at Gov. Rick Perry for taking hefty campaign donations from two of the biggest players.
In the report, “Banking on Bondage: Private Prisons and Mass Incarceration,” (http://www.aclu.org/prisoners-rights/banking-bondage-private-prisons-and-mass-incarceration) the activist civil-justice group that often rankles conservatives such as Perry traces the rise of private prisons and insists that the multimillion-dollar corporations that run them “have capitalized on our nation’s addiction to incarceration to achieve gigantic profits.”
