The Aftermath - A Week After RSO Raid

   It's been a week since 20+ State and Federal Law Enforcement Officers descended upon the Hotel I am forced to live in due to Jessica's Law residential restrictions. I thought my life could not get any worse, but it has. Along with the raiders were camera crews from all the local news stations. They called It a raid on Child Sexual Predators. My face ran with this headline as I was showed sitting outside my Hotel room in handcuffs. I have never been so humiliated and degraded in my life. Hundreds of thousands of the local news shows viewers saw me, my face, and exactly where I live. The four network TV news shows aired this for three days in a row - morning, noon, and night. I am still mad. I was falsely accused over 25 years ago. Does this nightmare ever end?
     Life was going as well as I could make It before this TV news airing. I was sober and attending AA, getting mental/ emotional help (not for being a sex offender, but for PTSD from living in prison and as a fugitive for 20+ years), I was to begin working with the local veteran's rep to find employment (I am a USAF veteran), and I was beginning to get something I have not had in a long, long time - HOPE. A week ago all this vanished. My hope is gone.
      My neighbors want me burned at the stake, I do not walk to or shop in our local stores anymore, people stare at my Hotel room door and point, someone took my picture as I was driving out of our parking lot, and this morning two cops were parked next to my van. How long until I get bullets fired thru my windows or a fire bomb? I still attend my meetings and have not drank alcohol over this nor have I cut off this horrible GPS tracking shackle I have locked onto my ankle, but I have lost my hope. Also, there are now cell phone apps that anyone can use to track me in real time 24 hours a day. Sure makes it easy for vigilantes to hunt. I would move, but have no place to go. It's a terrible thing to lose hope.

Two Days After Attack I Survived (RSO Parole Sweep)

     It's been two days since about 20 State and Federal Law Enforcement Agents ( at great CA taxpayer expense) swept into the Hotel where I live and conducted a massive parole sweep of RSOs on parole all in front of TV news crews and the media is still at it.      I really do not feel safe here any longer and wish I could move, but there is no where to go. I have family to live with, but Jessica's Law bans me from living in 70+% of Santa Clara Co. due to the Residential Restrictions . The newscast above highlighted a concerned mother worried to death about our presence here and does not allow her children to play outside anymore and told the reporter she feels her kids childhood is being stolen because of us. We live in a Culture of Fear in this country with The Sex Crime Witch Hunt going full steam. 
     The local medias have wipe up a frenzy and it feels like a lynch mob will soon be coming for us. This nightmare is getting worse and worse. Will more TV crews be here tonight? Will one of us be attacked by a vigilanty? Just when I was starting to have a small measure of hope that I could find a life after being falsely accused 25+ years ago, the media stirs up our neighbors and they are demanding we be banished. Just where are we suppose to go? Is there any hope? Why don't I just cut this damn GPS Tracking Shackle I have locked on my ankle and become a Fugitive from Justice again? Because I'll be sent back to prison for a long time, maybe a life sentence. My neighbors want my head impaled on a stake. Why? The hysteria is the worse I have ever seen it and I've been fighting The Sex Crime Witch Hunt for over 20 years now. I Survived a RSO Parole Sweep Today and Interviewed by NBC Bay Area News

    Today around 5:00pm an army of Police and Parole  Agents swept down on local hotels and raided all the RSOs on parole. I of course was caught up in this raid. I was about to cook dinner when a loud bang, bang, bang was pounded on my door. "Open Up - Police!" came from the other side. I opened my door and was quickly handcuffed and ordered to sit outside my door and then I noticed all the cops and P.O.s raiding another 1/2 dozen rooms. All of us on parole where in handcuffs. The raid took about 45 minutes. Most my neighbors where out watching the raid. For those few who do not know I am a RSO, they do now. Even patrons across the street in our local stores came out to watch the circus. A news crew were interviewing other residents of the Hotel and most appeared in shock. Was this a raid for Terrorists? Drug Kingpins? Evil Gang Members? Nope, just a raid on a bunch of guys on parole trying to rebuild their lives. Which is almost impossible due to Jessica's Law. The reason a 1/2 a dozen RSOs are here is because that due to Residential Restrictions this is one of the few places we are "allowed" to live. For alot of us it is either here or on the streets. Reporter, Jean Elle, of NBC Bay Area News came up to me and asked if I'd be willing to be interviewed? I said I wanted to be interviewed. We talked about my 1989 wrongful conviction, my 25 year fight against The Sex Crime Witch Hunt in this country, and of course how useless Jessica's Law is and how much taxpayer money is totally wasted on It. I was mad at being dragged out of my "home", handcuffed for no reason, and all of my belongings torn apart for no good reason. Also, I was mad at being degraded and humiliated in front of my neighbors and stores across the street. I hope my anger doesn't come across too much on NBC News. I'm waiting to watch the story as I write this. Hope they don't do a hatchet job on me. I fully explained all the negative aspects of Jessica's Law during the interview. Hope they do not cut it. Well, about a hour until the show broadcasts on NBC Bay Area News. Will come back on to tell you how the broadcast goes.

    Well, they did not broadcast my interview. I wonder why? Looks like this story about sex offender raids was just another exploitative and sensationalistic piece on Jessica's Law. They did not show my interview, but they did show me sitting handcuffed outside my Hotel room. They did broadcast one of my neighbors who is now scared to death and told the reporter that she is moving immediately. Amazing, talk about fear mongering. I don't know what I was thinking. A network news show telling the truth about Jessica's Law? Yeah, right. I'm pissed! All the local news stations are airing shows about the raid here and of course their praising It. Pure Insanity! The Day After Attack (04/22/11)
    I woke up this morning still mad about yesterdays circus. I wonder how much this raid cost CA taxpayers? What good did the raid produce? Any? Well, the local Police, Parole Agents, U.S. Marshalls, and other State and Federal law enforcement officers made money yesterday. Also, all the local news stations got "breaking news" stories about all us evil sex offenders and literally cheered when a couple guys got arrested. They called us "Predators". Made me sick watching this propaganda on TV that only promotes fear, distrust, and scared the hell out of my neighbors. I may be moving again soon. This nightmare never ends. Here's a copy of a Letter to the Editor I just sent to The San Jose Mercury Newspaper -
     I was a "victim" of yesterday's Sex Offender Predator Raid yesterday. I am a Registered Sex Offender in Santa Clara Co. who's "home" was raided by dozens of State and Federal Law Enforcement Agents. What good do these "raids" produce and at what cost to CA tax payers? I have been fighting The Sex Crime Witch Hunt and Jessica's Law for over two decades now after being falsely accused of rape in 1985. The sex crime hysteria in this country is at an all time high and has done far more harm, than good. I thought things were bad 25 years ago when I was falsely accused. Now we have Jessica's Law that has made me homeless, an outcast of society, I have a GPS Monitor locked onto my ankle, a curfew, and on and on. Jessica's Law is totally useless, It protects no one, costs CA taxpayers tens of millions of dollars a years, spreads fear in the community, and violates my Constitutional rights.    J. A.

Santa Clara County Police Monitor and Track 3,000 Sex Offenders With Home Raids

The picturesque county of Santa Clara, at the southern end of San Francisco Bay, is home to Silicon Valley and 3,000 sex offenders.

Policing sex offenders falls into the hands of 25 law enforcement officers who are part of a federally-funded task force called Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement, or SAFE.

"These are people who have just gotten out of prison or jail who are likely to reoffend," said Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith. "The recidivism rate for sex offenders is the highest of any type of crime."
- More BS lies.  The recidivism rates of sex offenders is totally the opposite, they are LESS likely than any other criminal, except murderers, to commit a similar crime. See here for many studies that show this.

Random visits are carried out to confirm that sex offenders who are considered to have a high propensity to commit another assault are living where they say they are and are obeying the detailed conditions that accompanied their early release from prison.

"Sometimes you'll see terms of probation that will include that they can't possess children's toys if their crime was a sex crime involving a child, or can't possess children's clothing," Smith said. "I've even seen terms and conditions of parole or probation that include 'can't possess a puppy or kitten.' We'll be looking at all those things. There is certainly a pornography prohibition."

"Nightline" accompanied SAFE on a typical day on the job, monitoring and tracking sex offenders. The first stop was the home of a 62-year-old former classroom assistant, who served a five-year prison sentence for multiple crimes against a 10-year-old girl.

After clearing the location, identifying the parolee, the police began the search. ABC News obtained permission from the parolee to follow the police onto his property to film their work.

While the police searched, we asked the parolee about his original offense.

"The original offense was the hug of the student," he said. "I worked with this student throughout the whole year and we developed a friendship during that time. ... She had low self esteem -- more so than any of the other members in class."

When we asked if it was possible by providing her with gifts, she was being groomed, the parolee said, "That's sort of the stereotypical view that was taken. I think that's part of [what] threw me into a category like a pedophile category."

Police Sweep Sex Offenders' Homes

The SAFE team searched his apartment for two hours. Sifting through the mountain of clutter in every room was a labor-intensive task.
- Yeah, I'm sure they ransacked the place, and did they leave it the way they found it? I doubt it!

"It makes it a lot tougher for us when we go in and search a residence if there is more stuff that we have to dig through," state parole agent Greg Weber said. "A lot of the stuff that we discover is not necessarily on the surface or in plain sight, but we'll have to dig."

This sex offender had been on parole for more than two years at the time of the SAFE sweep. It was only the police's second visit to his home, but he told us the visit was "overkill."

Although he was found guilty for the lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, possession of obscene matter depicting a child in a sexual act, and annoying and molesting a child, the parolee maintained his innocence.

Despite his attempt to play down the offenses, the parolee must also wear a GPS tracking device to ensure he's never in a location that places him close to children. Another condition of his parole explicitly forbids possession of any toys or children's clothing.
- To ensure he's never in a location that places him close to children?  Well, that is just about everywhere, right!

During the search, the police located a collection of toys in his home, and an Obi Wan Kenobi kid's costume.

"I bought that about a year and a half ago," the man said. "It was for a costume party over at my dad's assisted living place. He's 94."

When the officers questioned the parolee about the child's costume, he claimed he had purchased it to wear himself.

"You could put that on a person, on a guy. I had a shield and a helmet, a Trojan helmet," he said. "I didn't buy it for a child."

Despite his denials, the officers determined that the costume is a clear and certain breach of his parole. The man was taken into custody by police.

As they prepared to take this parole violator back to jail, we asked the obvious question: Was he planning to groom a child with the toys?

"No, those were just some of the things we've had over the years," he said.

The SAFE team may have prevented him from sexually abusing another child; he only had five months to go before he would be released from all his parole conditions.
- Of course, and as you get closed to the end of parole/probation, the raids and harassment will get more and more, and they usually find something to violate you on.

"Once this supervision is gone and once no one is looking over his shoulder supervising him, then he's on his own. So that's worrisome to me," Weber said. "But all we can focus on right now is while they're under our jurisdiction."

Smith is skeptical that sex offenders can be rehabilitated.

"We find that the same people commit the same kinds of crime," she said. "We believe that they'll reoffend."
- Well, some do, but by making it appear all will, is just wrong.

Jaycee Dugard Case: 'Tragic' for Law Enforcement

The case of  Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was allegedly kidnapped at 18 and forced to conceive two children by captor  Philip Garrido, has been a chastening one for the state of California. Though Garrido, a known sex offender, was visited by a parole officer, Garrido's backyard -- where Dugard was held -- was never checked.
- Was never checked? Really? Sure he was, it's been in the news he was checked up on regularly, just not to everyone's liking.

"It's a tragic case. Could things have been done differently? Absolutely," Smith said of the case, which occurred just outside her jurisdiction. "And I think that's why this team is so important. To make sure things like that don't happen in the future."

Back on the road, SAFE headed for another address, but not all parolees are easy to find. More than 63,000 people are required to register as sex offenders in California, which is home to approximately 83,000 sex offenders.

Although Santa Clara County has a compliance level of 95 percent, many offenders are registered as transient and others simply disappear.

"He was living here since 2008 up until Jan 1. Then he left ... [without informing] his probation officer or complying with [California law] and registering within five days of moving," a SAFE team member told us about the next offender on their sweep list.

At a third house, the family members told police that the parolee was not there.

"Very often, family members are very savvy with the troubles that their loved one, father, brother, have been in. And so they're ready to lie," Santa Clara Deputy District Attorney Dan Okonkwo said. "We keep coming back to check up."

As the day drew to a close, we learned of a second arrest: a parolee with prohibited pornographic material and something the officers had never seen before.

"There were numerous photos of anime -- pornography which is not technically pornography. It's cartoon characters, most of which involved pre-pubescent males involved in sexual acts with adult males. There was some adult pornography, which is in violation of his parole," a SAFE investigator said. "But given his particular offense involving minors ... the material we found was very disturbing."

The police said the pornographic material suggested the parolee was still set in his ways.

"With someone with his history of committing acts similar to that of children of that age, just by him viewing this, it's pretty obvious the attraction is never going to go away," the investigator said.

The sex offender was booked again and sent to jail. Outside of supervision, the cop said that development would likely have gone unnoticed.

"If there is nobody to watch him and nobody to catch him at the early stages of this, that's just going to spiral out of control until who knows what," he said.

The statistics against sex offenders are damning; most will repeat their offences, even if they've served time in jail. But Smith said we should not be writing these people off.
- No, the statistics are not, if you'd stop spewing lies and actually review the true statistics.  All we hear is sound-bites but never shown TRUE statistics and the source cited. See here for many studies that disprove this myth!

"I have a lot of compassion for them. I don't want them offending again," Smith said. "And if there are steps we can do in law enforcement to keep them from offending, especially sex crimes, I think that's what we need to do."
- Compassion? Really? What a joke!

Of the 20 visits today, most were found to be complying with their conditions. Two were not and are now back in jail. The SAFE team closes down for the night, knowing there'll be plenty of work come morning.
- So my question is, why was this article even done?  Is it so the police can say "look at us, we are actually doing something now," or is it so they can spread more fear and lies to stir up the public fear and distract them from other things?  Why not do this for all criminals?

Waiting for the Jessica's Law Gestapo

     There are over 3,000 RSOs in Santa Clara County. We are all under the ever watchful eyes of specialized Sex Crime Units that enforce the unconstitutional Jessica's Law and make sure we follow this insane law to the letter. I have been waiting for a raid ever since I was released from prison for refusing to register as a sex offender back in Oct. of 2010. These raids are nothing pretty. Since alot of us RSOs on parole are forced into homelessness we are treated with not only contempt, disrespect, humiliation, but also as if we have no human rights at all. I have spoken to a number of RSOs at the parole office who are forced into homelessness and are living in homeless camps and trailers parked in industrial areas. They've told me that when the frequent raids occur that all the RSOs are immediately handcuffed and all their belongings are searched. Only when it is determined that they have no "restricted" items in their possession are they uncuffed. Here in my hotel room I have conducted a total search to see if anything is hidden by past guests. Just like I used to do in prison when I'd move into a new cell. Jessica's Law has forced me to not see this as a hotel room, but a cell, and due to my curfew It is a cell for 1/3 of my life. I own a laptop and a smart phone. Both of these will have their hard drives downloaded when the raid comes to see if there are any pornography on them. They don't. I have never had so much as an exposed breast on either knowing that both will someday be scanned. No one else has ever used my laptop or cellphone. I'm ready for the raid. Come and get me boys. I'm not looking forward to being handcuffed without cause, having my belongings torn apart, my constitutional rights tramped, being humiliated, and treated like crap, but I am ready. It a shame that tens of millions of tax payer monies is wasted on these raids, especially in the recession that CA is in, but at least those conducting the raids have a job. These raids are just another example of not only the insanity of Jessica's Law, but also the extreme waste of tax payer money.
